Our Story Continued: Wedding Day

Wedding Day – Tuesday, December 21, 2012
That morning turned out to be even crazier than I expected. I woke up at 3:30 am to find several feet of snow on the ground and a heavy snow fall outside. My plan was to wake up and drive up to Provo where I would get my hair done. Luckily, the girl who was doing my hair happened to live next door to where I was staying. I gave her a call and let her know that I was snowed in (my 1996 Honda would not be able to get out). I got a ride with her (she had a truck) and drove up to Provo; that drive should have only take 15 minutes but instead took over an hour! We finally arrived at the salon and were running behind. It was just past 5 am. My family was also staying in Salem where I was snowed in. My sweet dad got up early to shovel the driveway and decided to do the neighbors as well. My mom and sister were able to make it safely to the salon around 7 am. I barely finished my hair in time and had about 15 minutes to do my makeup and fix everything else. We were schedule to leave Provo around 7:50 due to the roads being in bad condition and I was supposed to be at the Jordan River LDS Temple at 9. My dad wasn’t able to make it up to the salon until 8:45. We finally arrived at the temple at 10 which was when our sealing was scheduled to start. Luckily, there were only a few weddings scheduled for that day and it wasn’t a problem to get in right away. Our sealing was absolutely wonderful and we were surrounded by family and friends. After the sealing we met our guests outside the temple and took pictures.

Our wedding pictures turned out perfect! It stopped snowing right when we started them so the finished product was beautiful.

After the picture taking was over we went through the McDonalds drive-thru with Jordan’s sister Madison and her husband Josh. Kind of a fun memory. We then drove down to Salem where our luncheon took place. Everything turned out amazing! It was a winter wonderland theme and had a cozy feel which went perfectly with the weather. We were able to celebrate our day with close family and friends we hadn’t seen in a while. We had so much help from family and friends to help make our day perfect!

I also wanted to add some of my bridal pictures for those of you who haven't seen them!

Our Story Continued: Prenuptial

Prenuptial Dinner – Monday, December 20, 2012

My mother-in-law is so sweet! She wanted to do something special for us for our wedding and planned a fabulous prenuptial dinner. It was held at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City. That night it was cold and snowing but was absolutely beautiful. Earlier that day was pretty busy. We spent the entire day decorating for our luncheon with my family and friends in Salem. We also fit in time to run errands which turned out to be the most stressful mainly because piles of snow were melting into deep puddles of freezing water. I may have stepped in one or two. Around 4:30 pm we rushed back up to Provo to freshen up and then sped up to Salt Lake for the dinner. When we walked in I couldn’t believe it. It was beautiful down to the last detail. We had our own room so it was VIP only. We greeted our guests and then all sat down at our assigned seats. We ate at a delicious buffet, watched a power point presentation with fun pictures of us and heard our guest’s memories of us. It was such a wonderful addition to our wedding. After it was over the Brown family went to Temple Square but we drove home because we had a big day ahead of us. Jordan went to his apartment for the last time and I slept in Salem at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. Here are some pictures of that night (thank you Lindsey for the pictures :)).

Two Years

I wanted to wait to post Jordan's proposal because it so happens that two years ago today he proposed! It is fun that we are back in Myrtle Beach so we can relive that night.
Monday, July 5, 2010
Jordan went home to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in late June of 2010 to work. Since he got home from his mission late August he had to rush off to BYU and only had a week to be with his family. Also, since we knew we were getting married that December he thought it would be nice to be home for his last single summer. I went out the last week of July to spend with him and his family.
Things we did:
·         Jordan picked me up from airport in Charlotte
·         Met his siblings
·         Went to beach and rib city
·         Went to church and tour of childhood/high school years
·         Went to a western show
·         Went to toy story 3 with the Brown family
·         Swimming daily
·         Boating
·         4th of July
And that’s where Jordan proposed! The night of his proposal I had a paper I had to finish and email to my professor. I was working on it in the guest bedroom of the Brown’s home. Jordan would come into my room every 2 minutes asking “are you finished yet!” Even though it sounds suspicious I wasn’t suspicious one bit! Totally oblivious. After about the 25th interruption I finally decided take a break from my paper for that night and go with him. We first went to this really yummy ice cream place that he loved. Then we found a good spot to park by the beach and ate our ice cream and walked along the beach. It was so perfect! The sky was clear with the stars sparkling, the waves were calm, there weren’t too many people crowding, and there were fireworks in the distance (since it was the 4th of July weekend). We walked and talked/flirted for about 2 hours! We then found a nice spot to sit down, side by side. Somehow marriage came up and he transitioned smoothly into the proposal. He talked about how he loves me and how I’m the only girl he had ever loved. How lucky he was to have me and how much he wanted to spend all eternity with me. Then he turned to his left pocket, away from me, and said “Kaitlyn!!!” like “can you believe it!” and pulled out a ring case. He opened it and asked “will you marry me?” I was so happy I turned away from him and started laughing. Then I threw my arms around him and we starting laughing (I know corny). He asked if that was a yes and I said “yes!” For the next hour or so we were silly and in love on the beach. We then went to our car and I called my parents (they were so happy). The whole ride home we were beaming with joy. When we got back to his parent’s house his siblings met us at the door and were excited. Jordan didn’t tell them he was proposing that night but somehow they just knew! His parents had gone to bed but we woke them up to tell them the happy news and they were thrilled. What a happy night!

Our Story

I know this is a long post but I really wanted to document every detail of our story together for our kids, grandkids and us to read down the road.

Monday, September 5, 2009
At Brigham Young University it is popular to hike the “Y” mountain which is located in Provo, Utah. A mutual friend of ours happened to invite both of our apartments to hike the Y at midnight.  Jordan returned from serving an LDS mission in Korea one week before we started dating. We all met at Jordan’s apartment complex and drove up to the mountain together. Once we hiked to the top of the mountain, I noticed that Jordan was in the background texting while I sat on a rock with friends. I remember looking back at him and thinking “what the heck, he thinks he is so cool,” but it turns out he was texting his mom! I later noticed Jordan shivering and threw him my sweatshirt which he used for the rest of the night. Our group then walked down the mountain and drove back to his apartment complex where our two apartments decided to get together the next day. Somehow Jordan and I ended up exchanging phone numbers and Jordan told me to “use it wisely!” Later that night (still Monday) Jordan threw a bonfire party and invited me.

Highlights of bonfire:

·         When we drove to where the bonfire was I sat in the front seat.
·         We played our favorite music on the way up Provo canyon and flirted a little.
·         When we pulled into the parking lot and carried in some wood, Jordan and I were pretty much inseparable the whole night. Jordan says I was following him around like a puppy but I felt the same about him!
·         Roasting marshmallows on small logs by a lake
·         We opened up a lot with each other
·         We had a dance party (one of my favorite things)

The next night my apartment met up with Jordan’s to go clubbing at a new club in Provo. Once we got there, all dolled up, we found out it was closed because it was a week night. We were bummed but went to the Dollar Theater to see Transformers 2 instead. When we walked into the theater Jordan oddly jumped in front of me making it so we sat next to each other. We didn’t watch a minute of the movie. We talked and flirted through the entire movie talking about our favorite things, fun/scary/adventurous things we have done or want to do, etc. We got to the point where we both had our arms on the same rest and were touching! Later that night we texted until it was late and I ended up spending the night on my couch. Jordan fell asleep while we were in the middle of a conversation and texted me the next morning with an apology. He asked me what I had to eat for breakfast and I said ice cream and Captain Crunch. Mmmm. He said I was going to die and that he needed to take me out to dinner. I said okay and that’s when we made plans for our first date.

Wednesday, September 7, 2009
Our first date started by Jordan picking me up at my apartment in Provo, Utah. I can still remember what he was wearing; his light blue long sleeve, button up shirt and jeans. We went to Chilies and we happened to order the same thing. The dinner was not awkward at all and had lots of conversation and when it was silent it wasn’t awkward. We then left and Jordan asked me if I was up for part 2 of the date. I said yes. He took me up Provo Canyon and we talked throughout the entire drive. It was really comfortable. We went up to a spot on the mountain and parked. He pulled out his laptop and a bunch of movies. We chose to watch Orange County. After the movie he showed me a bunch of mission/family pictures and we talked about everything. He then drove me home and gave me a big hug at the door.

Highlights of our first date:

·         Picked me up at the door and walked me to the door at end of night
·         Very polite and well mannered
·         Opened my doors
·         Respected what I had to say and didn’t interrupt
·         Wasn’t awkward or weird
·         Paid for meal and didn’t care what I got
·         Put a lot of thought into our date
·         Lots of jokes and memories that we still talk about

The next day Jordan asked me to lunch and I agreed.  Since he had school all day we figured it would be easiest to meet at BYU in the cougar eat. When I met him in the cougar eat I was talking with my sister, Ashley. After our first date I didn’t know where we would go from there, but when Jordan walked up to me he gave me a small kiss on the check and grabbed my hand as we walked away. We never discussed us becoming a couple, it just happened and we both knew it and were happy!

We finally started our blog!

We wanted to wait to start a blog until starting a family (we think our lives are too boring J) but since moving cross country, we felt that now would be a good time to start. We hope our blog will help our family and friends who live far away will be able to stay updated with what’s happening in our lives. For those of you who don’t know we just moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Jordan was born and raised in Myrtle Beach and we were given the opportunity to move down here while we apply for dental school to work and play; so far we both love it! Jordan graduated from Brigham Young University with an exercise science major and started dental school applications all within the same month. We applied to 19 schools around the country and are hoping to get into at least one! This process will take a year so we will be here until then. As for right now we are working at a resort, loving our new apartment and enjoying being near the beach and family!
